I’ve been using UUIDs for a long time now, but wasn’t aware of some solutions out there for sortable UUIDs:
- ulid - Universally Unique Lexicographically Sortable Identifier
- ksuid - K-Sortable Unique Identifier
Their main claim to fame is the sortability by timestamp, but they differ from the standard UUIDs in other ways too, such as a more compact, copy-paste-friendly representation or case-insensitivity.
